Whats up UTA? We don't have one of these threads, but I'm sure some of you are into fitness and eating right.
Well, I just got a gym membership yesterday and am determined to lose some pounds. A few months ago I weighed around 220, but I got really sick and dropped to 196. I wasn't eating at all, and lost all of it in a span of like 2-3 months. It sucked feeling horrible, but it felt amazing to lose all of that weight. Anyway, since I started feeling better I gained about 10 pounds and am up to 206. This is why I just got a gym membership. I don't want to gain it back. I want to get to around 180. I'm 5'11. My diet is pretty horrible, I'll admit. Today was the first day of my diet, and I hope I can last doing it. I'm eliminating all junk, soda, juices, and as much carbs as possible. I'm only drinking water, and trying to stay away from bread. I had a sandwich today, but I only had half of the roll. Anybody have some tips on eating well? What should I have for breakfast and such? I usually have a muffin but today I had some yogurt. What should I do about meals? I'm a pretty picky eater. What are some good exercises at the gym and what else can I do to lose some pounds? Hopefully this thread has some good valuable information. |

I am fat as hell, I was 260 last time a stepped on the scales, I am 6'3... I have never really been into working out, and I honestly don't know how. but I feel like I am going to die soon if I don't, so I finally forced myself to eat a salad a few months ago. They taste pretty good, so long as it has no dressing.
Anyway, I do not have the discipline, will, or mental fortitude to get in shape or eat correctly, so I will probably die at 32. UTA prepare my online eulogy for about seven years from now... lmao... but seriously, it isn't funny I also realize that probably 60% of what we put into our body is poison, but I love it. I want to plant a garden, but I am too lazy for that as well... SMH...

Im a fitness/gym freak....training day = every day
i dont eat out at all anymore....just special occasions and i eat the leanest things possible on the menu(thus im eating at nice places) My diet is structured....foods i eat, and stuff u should get on oatmeal(old fashion rolled oats) NOT instant gabage 100%whey tuna Ck breast brown rice tilapia TONS OF VEGGIES(broccoli/asparagus/baby spinach) Natty PB Egg whites extra virgin olive oil for cooking NO SALT i train hyper and power alternating days. Most natural bodybuilders have similar training plans. ive been lifting for a long time, but i hadnt put on sustained muscle like i have over this last 15months. I went from 2400 cals to 3800-400 cals to take my BW from 147 and 5%BF to 201 and 14%BF. i am currently cutting and about 13 weeks in. ive got down to 175 and 7.5%BF. im sure i missed a lot but ill add Evan....Muffin is bad carbs, u need to eat a complex carb in the morning....and if u want to keep weight down, u will begin to gain first bc ur body is normally at 220, by training and eat right u will change the bodies habit and build muscle and stabilize weight. just bc u dont lose weight doesnt mean ur not. bc fat is a building block to muscle. so dont get discouraged, keep pushing. |

^ some good info, thanks.
What do you recommend I eat for breakfast in the morning? I don't like oatmeal. For lunch I usually have a roast beef sandwich with one slice of mozzarella cheese...is that alright? I'm a huge fan of chicken. I'll usually have bbq chicken with some green beans or peas. I'm not a fan of asparagus or broccoli, but I'll try to eat some broccoli. Is steak ok to eat, or no? When you eat tuna, what do you have it with? I like tuna, but I usually put it on some bread. Is it alright if I use whole wheat instead? I really want to make this work. I've said before that I'll diet and all, but never worked out. When I got down to 196, it felt amazing and such a huge difference from 220. I'm just pretty pissed that I let myself get back up to 205, hence the reason why I got a gym membership. What are some things I should do while at the gym? |

appreciate that info flash, I had gotten down to 210 a few years ago, as Evan said, it feels amazing to know you have accomplished something like that. Plus, I was getting so many compliments, which was awesome. Once I packed the pounds back on though, I said eff it, and became lazy.

Actually, I really shouldn't say I don't like oatmeal....I actually have never had it.
I guess I'll try it.Flash, do you put mayo in the tuna, or does that defeat the purpose? I only like tuna with mayo. Really appreciate the info. |

^GDI its never to late to start. its about are u fed up with what u have been doing and want to change for the better. strive for better always
true story: this past weekend it was the wifeys bday and she started the final year of opto school, so we went to a nice resturant with 29 other great friends. I got a huge steak (22oz) and i started eating before everyone had gotten served(but food was out, just need to get in front of them) and my girl is like wait. So i put the steak knife down and the handle slipped off the plate and got on my white polo, one of my girl best friends got a clorox wipe and was getting as much out as possible and she says " stop flexing your abs, your like an underwear model" .....wasnt flexing ![]() hard work pays dividends...do it for urself not the compliments....those are just bonus |

I actually don't like mayo either, only in tuna...lol. Whenever I eat a sandwich it's ALWAYS plain. I never get lettuce, tomato, onions etc. Only the meat. Everybody looks at me like I have 5 heads when I said just plain. |

I'm so damn sore right now. When I signed up for the gym yesterday, she showed me around ten brought me to a personal trainer. Definitely wasn't expecting that. I guess they give you a free session when you first sign up. Anyway, it was like a 45 minute workout doing various different things, and I'm so sore lol. It's hard for me to drive haha.

great thread evan!
I've been looking to get in better shape as well. While I'm not in terrible shape or anything (6'3 and ~175) I'd like to replace body fat with muscle and have gained some weight the past month or so. probably cause I turned 21 and drinking more ![]() I have been lifting most of this year. trying to go a couple times a week and hoopin on other days for cardio. tried some high intensity interval running but it made my knee flare up and now its hard to run with much intensity. gonna try the bike/elliptical some to reduce pressure on my knee and still get some cardio. Also recently began trying to improve my diet. I definitely didnt have the greatest diet. Last shopping trip tried to cut bad snacks and got more veggies, whole wheat, yogurt, NOT the instant oatmeal, fat free stuff. Actually today I got an app to count calories in hope it'll make me make sure I dont eat too much. Your stuff helps a lot FLASH, the hardest thing for me to find is some good stuff to eat. I can follow some instruction but am terrible at figuring out the healthy things with what I have. Evan, with what to do at the gym. I know just building lean muscle helps with your metabolism. The more you go, the more you figure out exercises. I used to be clueless with different lifting things. Keep your eye out and watch what other people are doing and also, like FLASH said, read up on the internet. Since I've really tried to go regularly I've learned a lot of different things to at least give my muscles a good workout and feel better. Edited by TCMan5190 - 20 May 2011 at 12:34am |
