Yesterday, Sneaker News confirmed the release date for the Air Jordan XIV Retro in the White/Varsity Red-Black colorway, bringing to light the thought of Michael wearing these during the 1998-1999 NBA Season in a hypothetical non-retirement scenario. Unfortunately, we never get to see MJ rock the Ferrari XIVs (these were, in fact, designed after Michael’s favorite sports car), but it still holds as much clout as any other in the legacy. Last seen in stores in 2005, the Air Jordan XIV in the ‘Home’ get-up returns next Saturday, and these official images should be a nice buttering-up of what should be the marquee Air Jordan release of the month. God in Heaven, I hope so. I've wanted those Indiglos since '99 and I had the Oxides (still got 'em but they are beat) and I had the Black Toes too back in the day. I got a lot of 14 on the last retro run but lost all but two pair to a break-in.(Lost:All Retros: Black Toes, Last Shots, White/Reds, Grey/Black/ Chartreuse, White/Greens) This time around I'm not really looking for anything other than the 3 colorways in bold. The Last Shots and the White/Reds are dope but they hold no nostalgic value for me since I never owned the OGs, so I'll cop for under $80 if I get the chance. |

During Michael Jordan’s second run with the Chicago Bulls when he won three Championships in three full seasons, the Air Jordan XI, XII and XIII each released in regular season and All-Star colorways before breaking out the black playoff-oriented designs. It probably would have been the same for the 1998-99 season, had the first part of it even been played and MJ not decided to retire with what was perhaps the most perfect career ending storyline in sports history. But had MJ returned as a part of that 50-game ’99 season that seems like a blessing to modern NBA fans, we might have seen this Air Jordan XIV Retro in white and Varsity Red arrive at retailers before the ‘Last Shots’, which ended up as the first Fourteens back in March of Ninety-nine.
