Evan and I were talking about this.
Who do you guys think are the top 5 point guards of all time? I had a tough time thinking of my list because some of the greats from the past are hard to incorporate. Here's my list: 1. Magic Johnson 2. John Stockton 3. Oscar Robertson 4. Gary Payton 5. Jason Kidd In which case J-Kidd and GP can easily be swapped. Jason Kidd was a better passer and rebounder who also played good defense. While GP was a better scorer than J-Kidd and a better defender. It's also hard to compile a list because some guys like Stockton and Kidd were pure PG's while other guys were better scorers first. I also left out Isiah Thomas who was obviously one of the greatest of all time. Just a tough list that I'm sure can easily be swapped around. |

So, we know there are a lot of good point guards in the league right now, so instead of all time, what is your guys top 10 PGs currently in the NBA. Naming 5 is pretty tough, so we'll go with 10. I was on RealGM before, and this is a much debated topic. Anyway, heres my list.
1. Rose 2. D-Will 3. Paul 4. Rondo 5. Westbrook 6. Nash 7. Tony Parker ------------------ 8. Kyrie Irving 9. Ty Lawson 10. John Wall

Paul and Dwill are clearly better overall players. He's the fastest prob but not #1. |

Cause Chris Paul and Deron Williams can't shoot like Drose. Let's be realistic he had a big year last season but he is a shoot first point guard when Dwill and CP3 can create for others and themselves |

In terms of whose playing the best this season....He's mostly right. Chris Paul is having a better season than D-Rose this year. Steve Nash is also having an incredible year and Tony Parker is playing well. You guys forgot to mention Westbrook though. This guy trades off 30 point games with Durant. Why isn't he considered? Because he's a shoot first point guard? Derrick Rose is exactly the same way. Breakin Necks, how is D-Rose way better than CP3? I don't even like CP3, but he's as good as it gets when it comes to pure PG which D-Rose is not. D-Rose and Westbrook are the same type of players while Deron Williams and CP3 are the same type of players. You act like D-rose didn't just shoot his team out of the playoffs last year. Dude won MVP while being a terrible jump shooter and shooting like 30% from the field. I realize it wasn't only his fault they lost to the Heat, but he was a big part. I can see how D-will isn't considered this year because his team is garbage, but once he's on a better team he will be at the top once again.

D Rose has that Iverson syndrome, and that's not a bad thing. But are you really watching the games or catching the highlights on ESPN News? I could go the jerk route and ask how many rings D Rose has compared to Tony Parker. But if we go with just stats, they're very close. Dude is trigger happy and had ONE good playoff run. ONE! Yall are letting that ESPN hype cloud your better judgement. Point Guards are supposed to be distributors, determine flow of the game and handle tempo. When you break it down to those simple things you can't act like I just compared Mario Chalmers to Magic Johnson. |

I rarely miss a bulls game, im not a bandwagon fan or someone who just watches highlights... From the games i have watched cp3 play this year he has been sloppy and streaky.. Not only is rose a good point guard but he is a legit scorer, and someone you can count on to make big shots when needed, i would rather have that than a "pure pg" but thats just me.. Chris Paul PPG 18.5 RPG 3.70 APG 8.6 EFF + 22.88 D Rose PPG 22.0 RPG 3.50 APG 7.7 EFF + 21.50 D Williams PPG 22.2 RPG 3.40 APG 8.2 EFF + 19.76 Tony Parker PPG 19.5 RPG 2.90 APG 7.9 EFF + 19.09 Edited by breakin_necks - 22 February 2012 at 12:43pm |
